Author’s
Notes: This story follows “A
Side Order of Life”. So on this rollercoaster from the Hell which
is Pete, we have now reached our lowest point.
This story will not be a cheerful one, but it will be the last story
that will truly be depressing in regards to Pete and this era in my series.
Make it through this one and you will begin to see a light at the end
of what has seemed like a very long tunnel.
I’m doing my very best to keep moving on these, so keep sending me
your feedback and encouragement…that helps me the most!
The song at the end of this story is entitled “And So It Goes” (right
click here to download), sung by Billy Joel. Thanks for all your support and even though
this one won’t be the happiest story, I hope you enjoy it!
Dedication: I’d like to dedicate this story to
Pauline. Thanks for all your recent support
and wonderful feedback. Though I’m
dedicating an angst fic to you, it in no way reflects how much I appreciate
your continued dedication to my series!

Jack sat in his office at the SGC, blindly staring at a report in front of
him from SG-3’s recent mission. The
words that were contained within it were English, but it might as well have
been written in an ancient dialect…his chances of reading or understanding
anything it was trying to say were basically zero.
Growing more frustrated by the minute,
he pushed the report aside and sat back heavily in his chair, scrubbing his
face with his hands. Sighing, he looked
over at the clock on his wall. How many
seconds, minutes, maybe even hours had he been sitting there trying to act like
everything was normal…like there was nothing incredibly wrong with his
life? It was an answer he couldn’t come
up with, and frankly, he didn’t care to.
Hesitating for a moment, he finally
reached out and opened one of the drawers in his desk. Lifting out some routine paperwork and
manuals, he then fingered the bottom of the drawer for the subtle notch he was
looking for. Finally finding it, he used
the edge of his nail and lifted up what was supposed to be the bottom of the drawer. When General Hammond had vacated his office
and Jack had finally taken the reins after Elizabeth Weir had moved on to
Atlantis, Hammond had called him and told him of the secret panel in that
drawer that he had used for extremely sensitive documents. No one else knew about it, and Jack had promised
to keep it that way.
Moving aside a folder, he finally
found what he was searching for. Almost
afraid to touch it, he reached in and pulled out a photograph. Looking up to make sure no one had stepped
into his office unnoticed, Jack flipped it over and sat back. It was a photo of himself and Sam, looking
extremely happy, cuddled closely together and obviously in love. It had been taken on a day that was bright
and beautiful…Jacob had spent the day with them, and after having lunch, they
had ventured up into the mountains where the photo had been taken. It was one of only a rare few that he had of
them together since their relationship had always been held in secrecy; therefore
its meaning was that much more precious to him.
Running a finger over Sam’s face in
the photo, Jack suddenly felt a stabbing pain in his heart. How had they gone from that incredible day to
where they were now? Jack had always
known that he and Sam would have challenges with their relationship, but he had
counted on their love to pull them through.
How had that changed? What had he
done to lose her love? What had he done,
or rather not done, that had caused her to run into the arms of another
man? And why, why was she now walking
around the base with a ring on her finger that wasn’t his?
Sam was engaged to Pete. The sentence baffled him…he knew it
shouldn’t…the warning signs had all been there, especially after their
conversation a few days ago in her lab…
Jack
walked down the hallway, slowly approaching Sam’s lab. What he was going to say to her, he didn’t
know, but something had to be said.
Something was wrong. Right after
getting back from their little mini vacation to the water park, Sam had met up
with Pete…he had known about it only because she had told him that she was
going to. Not having asked any
questions, Jack had waited on pins and needles to see her again, hoping against
hope that she was meeting with him for more than just a date…he was hoping that
after the time they had spent together that Sam had come to her senses and was
going to break up with him.
But after that much anticipated day,
she had not discussed anything with him that hadn’t been work related. She had in fact been distant and distracted,
and Jack knew that Pete had said something to her that had put her in such a
state of mind. Taking a breath, he
arrived at her doorway and stopped just outside her lab. Looking in, he found her working on her
laptop.
“Carter.”
Sam looked up, surprised. “Sir.”
Jack wasn’t quite sure what excuse
to use in order to start the conversation…he hadn’t thought that far
ahead. Reaching for the first thing that
popped into his mind, he moved forward into her lab and came to stand on the
opposite side of her workbench. “I never
thought I’d hear myself utter these words:
I need that report.”
Sam, taken by complete surprise at
his presence and his request, spoke up quickly.
“Right! Um, I just need to…finish
typing up my notes.” Quickly reaching
for a pile of papers next to her, she started rummaging through it. “Um, yeah, I’ll have it for you first thing
tomorrow.”
Jack glanced at his watch. “It is tomorrow.”
Sam looked down at hers. How long she had been sitting there trying to
concentrate on her work when Pete’s question kept running through her
head? Surprised by the time, not to
mention the fact that Jack was still up and at the base, Sam was at a loss of
words. “Oh.”
Jack could see her visible
distress. Knowing he couldn’t continue
the conversation the way it was going, he decided to get straight to the
point. “I’m joking! I don’t need the report.”
Sam was now even more confused. “Well then, why…?”
Jack didn’t let her finish. “Because something’s going on with you…you
haven’t tried to confuse me with any scientific babble for the last couple of
days and that’s a red flag to me!”
Sam had known deep down that this
conversation was going to have to happen, but she was hoping she could avoid it
and spare him any extra pain until after she’d made her decision. Sighing, she knew he couldn’t be put off any
longer. Reaching for the little black
velvet box on her desk, she picked it up and handed it to him, forcing herself
to look into his eyes. “Pete gave me
this.”
Jack’s heart almost stopped as he
looked at the little black box she was holding out to him. Taking it, the velvet fabric seemed to
practically scald his fingertips as he opened it. There nestled in its soft cushion, was a
diamond ring. It wasn’t anything that in
his opinion stood out, but it was an engagement ring none the less, and it was
cutting into the fabric of his heart as its sparkle caught the low light of
Sam’s lab. Forcing his voice to work, he
responded curtly. “People normally wear
these on their fingers.”
Sam looked at him. “I haven’t said yes.”
Jack would have thought an answer
like that would have had him jumping for joy…but instead it just made him
angry…angry that after all they’d been to one another, after all they’d been
through to make their relationship work, it had come down to this. Jack’s voice was clear cut and straight to
the point. “And yet…you haven’t said
no.” As if to emphasize his point, he
snapped the box shut, making Sam jump.
Sam tried to offer him a quick
reason for her hesitation. “I told him I
needed to think about it.”
Jack was trying to keep himself from
yelling at her. Taking in a breath, he
put the box back on the desk, happy to have it out of his hand. “And?”
Sam gave him a weak smile. “That was two weeks ago.”
Jack answered her. “Ah!”
He now understood the reason for her odd behavior the last few
weeks.
Sam went on, now obviously looking for
Jack to become a sounding board. “You
know, all these years, I’ve been concentrating on work. I just assumed that one day I would…”
Jack finished for her. “Have a life?”
Sam nodded. “Yeah.”
Jack replied the same. “Yeah.”
A life…a life that was supposed to be with him, not Pete. Hadn’t they already made those dreams
together? What had happened to the
Samantha Carter that he’d made them with?
How could she sit there and say those words to him, knowing what they
had together in the past. To Jack, it
was a slap in the face.
But she went on. “And now that it has come down to it, I don’t
know. I mean, every time we go through
the Gate, we risk not coming back. Is it
fair to put somebody else through that?”
Jack wanted to say that’s why you’re
supposed to be with me...up until he’d become General, he was always there for
her on the other side…there to protect her in a way Pete would never be able
to. But Jack was so upset at this point
and had all his defenses up that he found himself leaning in the opposite
direction. “Pete is a cop…I think he
could handle it.”
Sam continued to shred his
heart. “What about kids?”
Jack felt like she’d now punched him
in the gut. “What about them?”
“Do I take maternity leave and then
come back? What…do I drop the baby off
at daycare on my way to some unexplored planet on the edge of the Crab
Nebula?” Sam’s confusion and frustration
were evident in her voice and facial expressions.
Jack was now so pissed off that it
was all he could do to keep himself stationed where he was standing. “Carter, there are people on this base who
have families.”
Sam hesitated for a moment and then
looked directly into his eyes. “What
about you? If things had been different…”
Jack now felt his anger being washed
over in a tidal wave of sadness. That
she even had to ask this question told him that she had somehow changed enough
that he didn’t know her anymore. “I
wouldn’t be here.”
Jack turned on his heel and was to
her doorway before her voice called out to him.
“Wait, Jack, I didn’t mean…I guess I was referring to your son.”
That reminder served him no
good. Turning around he walked back to
her, this time moving in closer and lowering his voice. “My son has nothing to do with this, Carter,
and you know it. Oh, and don’t
forget…its Sir.” Leaving her dumbfounded
and hopefully a little hurt, Jack stormed out and tried his level best to
compose himself as he made the long walk back to his office. But when he got to the elevators, he instead
pushed the button that would take him straight to the surface. It might be 0100 hours, but a run was
sounding really good to him at that moment…even if he wasn’t exactly outfitted for
it.
His run that night had been just what
he’d needed in order to continue to function.
A cold front had moved into the area along with a sharp wind that had
bit at his face as he’d went, but the pain had kept him alive and had also kept
him from breaking down and completely losing it. He had been gone for almost an hour before
finally returning to the darkened parking lot, only to find that Sam’s car was
gone. Relieved that he wouldn’t have to
face her, Jack decided to lock himself into his quarters at the base that
night, hopeful that he would minimize any chance she had at talking to
him.
Now sitting at his desk alone, staring
at her face on glossy photo paper, Jack found himself wondering if he hadn’t
done enough. Had his silence that night
at the hotel in Williamsburg done the ultimate damage? They had reconnected on some level during
that trip, and that night, after all the chaos of the day had passed and she
sat in that chair looking lost and vulnerable, what if he had stayed? Instead of walking out of her hotel room,
should he have said more?
But Jack ultimately knew that if any
silence was detrimental, it was his angry silence that he had given her after
she had shown him the ring. Looking at
it now, Jack knew he should have taken her off the base that same night, sat
her down and fought for their love with all he had left in him. Her pleading eyes when she’d asked him if
things had been different…it had been an invitation and possibly a great
opportunity…and he had missed it.
And now it was too late. Within 24 hours of that shocking
conversation, Sam had knocked on his office door, and gave him news he never
thought he’d hear….
“Come
on in!” Jack had just sat down from the
debriefing with Sam, Teal’c, and Daniel over the Trust’s most recent act of cowardice
and had been hoping for a little quiet time.
Looking up, he was surprised to see Sam, since she’d basically avoided
him since their conversation in her lab.
“Carter. What’s up?”
Sam hesitated and then stepped in,
closing the door. “Um, this won’t take
long…it’s about last night in my lab…”
Jack held up a hand. “I really don’t want to talk about it. I am sorry I was a bit upset, but your news
took me off guard. But I really don’t
think this is the appropriate place to finish our conversation.”
Sam, now looking pale and drawn,
spoke up softly. “I said yes.”
Jack sat there for a moment unable
to move an inch, let alone breathe. But
when his lungs began to burn, his body took over for him and he took in a quick
breath, letting it out slowly. Jack
briefly glanced up at her and nodded, then reached forward for the closest
chart he could find. Opening it, he
began to read, though his mind wasn’t registering the words.
Sam shifted her weight. “Are you going to say anything?”
Jack’s head snapped up and he threw
the folder on his desk. “I don’t really
think there’s anything I can say now is there…except I
guess…congratulations. Pete’s a lucky
guy.” Indicating the mess on his desk
with his hand, he continued quickly.
“Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got a lot on my plate right now.”
Without even looking back up, Jack
knew that Sam was trying to hold back tears.
And though everything in him still wanted to take her in his arms and
comfort her, he held back and kept his eyes focused on the file in front of him
until she quietly slipped out of his office and shut his door with a
click.
Only then did he look up at his now
vacant office and wonder what was truly left for him.
Jack gave the picture in his hand one
more look and then put it back carefully where he’d found it. Replacing all the files in the drawer, he
closed it and then let his head drop into his hands. He felt so lost, so tired, and so emotionally
drawn that he really didn’t know what to do or where to go. It had only been a few days since she’d
announced her engagement to him, but already he’d considered multiple times
redrafting that letter to General Hammond that he’d almost sent him a few
months ago.
Permanent retirement was looking
really good, but then the idea of sitting alone in his cabin by the lake for
the rest of his days was equally depressing.
He’d even considered a transfer to a foreign country. He actually knew of several U.S. bases that
were in need of a new General, and with no family and now no Sam, that
opportunity was looking very enticing.
He just knew the last thing he could
do was sit there and work with her day after day, watching her plan her wedding
to a man she hardly knew, and then worse yet, see that marriage take
place…because if he didn’t show up for his own teammate’s wedding, whispered
rumors would no doubt begin.
Just then a quick knock came at his
door, followed by a sweet and soothing female voice. “Rough day?”
Jack looked up and was stunned to see the pretty brunette that he’d met
in Washington D.C. a few weeks ago now standing in his office. “You know, General, you did promise me a red
carpet…I was disappointed not to see one.”
Jack gave her the first smile he had
in several days. “It’s at the dry
cleaners…sorry. Kerry J…?”
Kerry smiled warmly. “Johnson.
Kerry Johnson, CIA.”
Jack nodded. “I remember that part…and you. I’m just historically bad with names.”
“No problem. Um, is this a bad time, because I could come
back…”
Jack practically jumped out of his
chair. “No…you’re fine…I mean its fine.”
Kerry blushed slightly as she set her
brief case down and moved forward, her hand outstretched. “It’s good to see you again, General
O’Neill.”
Jack took her hand and smiled. “Likewise…and remember, you can call me
Jack.”
Kerry gave his hand a light squeeze
and then released it. “Well, you might
want to reserve that request until you hear why I’m paying you a visit. Officially, the government is getting a
little worried about the Trust and this most recent situation involving Dr.
Jackson. Though we know the group is
basically newly formed from rouge NIA agents, the President wants me to start
an investigation into their dealings and try to find a way to keep us out of
trouble, and more specifically, find a way of hopefully one day capturing and
disbanding them.”
Jack sat down in his chair. “Sounds fun.
Where do I fit in?”
Kerry took the chair on the other side
of his desk. “For right now, you run
things like you always have. The hope is
that my occasional presence here won’t interfere with any day to day
operations, unless of course we have more problems with them. We’ll have to see when and if it comes to
that.” Taking a breath, she smiled. “Basically, I’m just here to fill you in on
my new job responsibilities, get a feel for what you do here, and then I’m on
my way back to Washington…for now.”
Jack sat up in his chair. “Well, I’m happy to give you a tour, although
my speech has not been rehearsed...frankly, I’m not into all that techno mumbo
jumbo, so you may not find what I have to say very interesting at all.”
Kerry gave him a light laugh. “I highly doubt that.” Looking at each other for a moment, Kerry
hesitated and then finally spoke up.
“Unofficially, I’m here to pay you back for saving my presentation that
day…and for your phone call on my behalf.
I was wondering if you eat meat?”
Jack gave her a half smile. “Nothing but…what did you have in mind?”
“Nothing but the best for a
top-ranking Air Force general. If you
know of a good steakhouse, I’m buying.”
Kerry held her breath for a response that she was hoping would be positive.
Jack’s eyes glanced down at the drawer
where the picture of himself and Sam was now entombed underneath a mound of
paperwork. Hesitating for only a moment,
he then stood up and nodded. “Sounds
like a date. How about a quick tour by
yours truly and then we can head out?
That is if you’re hungry?”
Kerry smiled with relief. “Famished.
I haven’t eaten all day.” Looking
at his doorway, she stood up. “Um, shall
we?”
Jack moved around his desk. “Why don’t we start with the main
attraction?” Giving her another smile,
he surprised himself at the surge of energy he had acquired since she had
stepped into his office. Grateful for
the distraction, he didn’t see any harm in sharing a meal with her, especially
if it took his mind off of the fact that his heart would probably never be the
same again.
Four hours later and well into the
start of the night, Jack pulled up in front of Kerry’s hotel. Putting his hazards on, he got out and went
around to her side, opening the door for her and holding out his hand to help
her down. When she took it, the warmth
of her touch took him by surprise and his eyes connected with hers.
Smiling
softly at him, she spoke up. “Thank you.” Holding onto his hand, she took a moment before
releasing it. “It’s been a wonderful
evening.”
Jack nodded in agreement. Suddenly chilled by the lack of her touch, he
stuffed his hands into the pockets of his jacket and looked up at her
hotel. “So, are you here for another day
or do you head back in the morning?”
Kerry ran a hand through her
hair. “I leave in the morning…the very
early morning. I’ve got a mound of
paperwork on my desk that just keeps piling up.”
Jack gave her a small smile. “I know the feeling.” Not sure what to say next, he hesitated for a
moment before continuing. “So when are
you due to come back and grace us with your presence?”
Kerry crossed her arms over her chest
to take the chill off from the evening air.
Even though she had a coat on, the forecast was for temperatures to take
their first serious plunge that night, and she could feel them steadily
dropping. “I’m not sure, but hopefully
it will be soon.” Stepping in a little
closer, she looked up at Jack. “Not that
I’m hoping the Trust causes new problems for you, but I truly have enjoyed
spending the evening with you. Your tour
of the base was very interesting.”
Jack let out a nervous laugh. “Well, I do my best.” Dropping his smile to give her a more serious
expression, he then continued. “I’ve had
a good time too. Thanks for dinner. Next time it will be my turn.”
Kerry gave him a hopeful look. “Will there be a next time?”
Jack knew what her question
meant. He thought about it for a moment,
thought about Sam and all that he had been through with her, and then thought
about how lonely he had been over the past few days, not to mention weeks. “I hope so.”
Kerry studied his expression for a
moment, reached out, placed a hand on his chest and then lightly kissed his
cheek. Lingering for a moment longer to
look into his eyes, she smiled sweetly. “I’m
looking forward to it…Jack.” Stepping
back, she moved up the steps towards her hotel, glancing back once at him
before disappearing into the lobby.
Jack remained in his spot for a minute
longer, trying to absorb what had just happened and what might be coming down
the road. Did he want it? Was he even ready for it? Would he just be hurting himself and her by
allowing such a rebound relationship to even begin?
Looking up at the night sky, velvet
black and crystal clear, he searched the heavens for Charlie’s star but couldn’t
find it. Feeling out of sorts and unsure
of what he was supposed to do, Jack climbed back into his truck and pulled away
from the hotel. But after he’d been
driving mindlessly for a while, he found that his thoughts were clouding all
ability to function normally, including the ability to steer his truck.
Pulling off the road into a deserted
parking lot, it wasn’t until after he pulled into a spot and put the truck’s gear
into park that he realized where he was.
With the radio softly playing, he closed his eyes and remembered a time
gone by…
About five miles from Janet’s house, Jack suddenly
pulled off the road and entered the park.
With Sam giving him a curious look, he guided the truck towards the back
of the park and into a little lot that overlooked a now iced over pond. Putting the truck in park and turning it off,
he looked over at Sam and gave her a slow, sexy half smile.
Sam
found herself laughing giddily. “What
are we doing here?”
Jack
took off his gloves, removed his seatbelt, and scooted over closer to her. Reaching out, he placed his hands on either
side of her face and drew her in for a passionate kiss. With hearts beating wildly, they both got
lost in the moment and almost forgot to breathe. Coming up for air, Jack was pleased to see
the pale pink flush that was now coloring her cheeks. “Haven’t you ever parked before?”
Sam
gasped. “Jack! We can’t do that here! It’s still broad daylight and who knows who
might discover us!”
Jack
smiled. “Relax…as much as I would love
to go all the way with you right here and now, I know that the risk is too
great…but more than that, the Doc will have my head on a platter if I don’t
deliver you to her house soon.” Bringing
his lips down to her neck, he began painting a trail of soft kisses down her
supple skin. “But,” he said, “who’s to
say we can’t make out like a couple of horny teenagers for a few minutes.”
Sam
moaned lightly, her body responding to his touch. “Oh, Jack…I’ve missed you.”
Jack
proceeded to the other side of her neck as one of his hands found its way to her
breasts. “Oh not as much as I’ve missed
you…” With that said, he brought his
lips up to hers and proceeded to ravish her with all the pent up passion that
he’d been storing. Eventually, their
bodies found a way to lie down on the seat, with Jack on top of her. With tongues exploring and probing every inch
of each other’s mouth, they let the world slip away for a few minutes as their
love consumed them.
Sam
could feel Jack’s hard erection pushing against her through their clothes, and
she arched her hips up and ground herself against it, loving the feel of his
muscle as it pushed against her crotch.
“Oh God, Jack! Please…please…I
need you!”
Jack,
too consumed by his passion for her, no longer cared if they got caught. With the windows of his truck already steamed
over, he captured her mouth and used his hands to quickly unzip her pants and
hastily pushed them down over her hips.
As
Sam undid his pants, she reached down his boxer briefs and guided his erection
out with her hand. Stroking it, she
indulged in the way Jack responded to her touch, and then gasped as his finger
found its way inside her. Arching her
back, she clawed at the seat with the fingers of one hand while griping the
bottom of the steering wheel with the other.
With her voice coming in jagged tones, she pleaded with him. “Oh God…now, Jack…please!”
Jack
wasted no time in answering her desperate cries. With one violent thrust, he was inside of
her, loving the feel of how tight she was.
Having already reached their climatic edge, they came together in full
ecstasy only moments later, shuttering against each other as they held on for
dear life.
As
the aftermath of their lovemaking subsided into a quiet peace, Sam looked into
Jack’s eyes and smiled, wiping the sweat off his brow with one of her
hands. Keeping her voice low, she spoke
up. “Well, I have to say that was the
best parking I’ve ever done.”
Jack
smiled back at her and kissed her lightly.
“I’ll second that. I don’t think
I’ll ever be able to sell this truck now.
It’s apparently capable of a lot more than just getting around town.”
As
Sam laughed, Jack’s cell phone rang.
Groaning, he sat up a little awkwardly and reached inside his coat
pocket that was now deposited in a heap on the passenger side floorboard. Flipping the phone open, he rolled his eyes
and then pinched the bridge of his nose as he answered. “I know, Doc…head on a platter.”
Janet’s
voice came through loud and clear from the other end. “Well, Colonel, I’m assuming that since
you’re answering your cell phone, you’re back on Earth! I thought I gave you strict instructions to
bring her to my house?” After taking a
quick breath, her voice came back, this time a little panicked. “Don’t tell me she didn’t come!”
Jack
shook his head and tossed the phone over to Sam, who was now sitting casually
behind the steering wheel, attempting to smooth out her hair. “Hey, Janet, I’m here.”
Janet
breathed a sigh of relief. “Oh, Sam,
thank God! Where are you? My nerves are about shot thinking I’m going
to have to bring Brian to the ball by myself.”
Sam
grinned. “Don’t worry, Janet, I’ll be
there in less than 10 minutes. Jack and
I had to…make a stop first.”
Janet’s
voice suddenly became playfully stern.
“Don’t think you two lovebirds can fool me! I really don’t need the details, at least not
right now. Just get here, please?!”
Sam
looked over at Jack and gave him a smile.
“We’re on our way.” Hanging up
the phone after saying goodbye, she handed the phone back to Jack and
sighed. “We’re never going to live this
one down you know.”
Jack
shrugged. “Hey, I went and got you. The least she can do is show a little
sympathy for us. Besides, I have to be
on my best behavior for the rest of the night, and you know how hard that is
for me on a normal basis, let alone with you in the same room.”
Sam
kissed him on the cheek and then reached behind her and pulled her seatbelt
around her, buckling it. Turning the
truck on, she glanced over at him with a playful look in her eyes. “Well, I guess we’ll just have to do some
more parking later on.”
Jack
shook his head as he buckled himself in as well. “You are going to be the death of me,
Major…but in a wonderful way.”
Surprised
that he hadn’t objected to her starting up the truck, she looked over at
him. “You don’t mind if I drive?”
Jack
leaned his head back on the head rest behind him and closed his eyes, a smile
curling his lips. “After what we just
did, you can drive my truck anytime.”
Sam
laughed and put the truck in reverse, backing out of the parking spot. As they pulled away, Sam knew that they’d
found another place that would remain special just for them for the rest of
their lives.
Jack
opened up his eyes and stared out at the black, lonely night. With his cheeks wet from unnoticed tears,
Jack took in a shaky breath as a new song came on the radio. “What am I going to do without you, Sam?”
In every
heart there is a room
A sanctuary
safe and strong
To heal the
wounds from lovers past
Until a new
one comes along
I spoke to
you in cautious tones
You answered
me with no pretense
And still I
feel I said too much
My silence
is my self defense
And every
time I’ve held a rose
It seems I
only felt the thorns
And so it
goes, and so it goes
And so will
you soon I suppose
But if my
silence made you leave
Then that
would be my worst mistake
So I will
And you can
have this heart to break
And this is
why my eyes are closed
It’s just as
well for all I’ve seen
And so it
goes, and so it goes
And you’re
the only one who knows
So I would
choose to be with you
That’s if
the choice were mine to make
But you can
make decisions too
And you can
have this heart to break
And so it
goes, and so it goes
And you’re
