General Hammond furrowed his brow in worry as he read the paper that he held in his hands, going over it again for what felt like the hundredth time.  The cushion of his leather back chair felt cold and hard as he sat in the briefing room, waiting to discuss the recent developments with his number one team.  A headache was beginning to form as he contemplated not only the best course of action, but also the best way to deliver the news.

Lost in thought, General Hammond failed to hear SG-1’s entrance into the briefing room, led by Jack, who bounced up the last few steps.  Entering the quiet room, Jack’s voice seemed to boom in General Hammond’s ears.  “General, you wanted to see us?”

General Hammond looked up as they approached, his eyes looking over each of them in a serious manner.

Sam could tell immediately that something was wrong.  But what, she couldn’t guess.  They had returned only a few hours ago with what was left of the Russian team, specifically Lieutenant Tolinev, and their exploration of Marduk’s tomb.  After being examined in the infirmary, and given a clean bill of health by Dr. Warren, who was filling in for Janet while she was on vacation, they had just sat down together to eat when an airman informed them that General Hammond needed to see them right away.

Sam gave the general a concerned look as she approached the table with the rest of the team.  Glancing at Jack, who was beside her, she could see he was sensing the same thing.  Clearing her voice, she spoke up.  “Sir?  Has something happened?”

General Hammond gave them a small, sad smile.  “I’m afraid something has, Major.  Please, take a seat.”  As he waited for them all to get settled in their chairs, he looked down at the piece of paper in his hands once more before looking up again.  When he did, he could see that this wasn’t going to be easily said.

Taking a breath, he continued.  “I’m afraid I have some distressing news to report to you.  I was just informed a little while ago that Dr. Fraiser and Cassandra have been reported missing.”

Daniel shook his head slightly.  “I’m sorry, General Hammond.  Missing?  How?  What happened?  I thought they were on vacation.”

General Hammond nodded.  “They were, son.  It appears that they were touring the island of Oahu with a tour group.  From what reports I’ve been given, it appears that somehow the bus driver lost control, and the bus carrying them and the other tourists careened over the edge and slide down into a low-lying valley below.”

Sam took in a breath, her voice suddenly shaky.  “Oh my God!”

Jack glanced in her direction briefly before turning back to General Hammond, his voice deep with concern.  “What caused the bus to go over the edge?”

General Hammond just shook his head.  “I don’t know, Colonel.  But unfortunately, when rescuers made it down to the bus, they were missing four people, including Dr. Fraiser and Cassandra.  No one on the bus knows quite what happened to them, only that they were on the bus before it went over the edge.”

Teal’c spoke up, a look of confusion on his face.  “Did they not look around the area where the bus stopped?”

General Hammond looked at Teal’c.  “Yes, they did that.  They’ve already combed the immediate area around where the bus impacted, but no one has been found.”

Jack couldn’t believe what he was hearing.  First a plane crash, and now this.  Fear and anger welled up in his voice as he spoke.  “When did this happen?  And how do we know these supposed rescuers are doing the best they can?”  As he waited for a response from General Hammond, his body tense, he suddenly felt Sam’s hand descend on his knee, giving it a gentle squeeze.  Without looking, he knew that she was feeling the same terror, if not more, than he was.  After all, Janet was her best friend, and Cassie was just like a daughter to her.  Her touch was soothing, forcing him to take a breath as he held his eyes on General Hammond.

General Hammond gave Jack a serious look.  “According to the reports, this happened about three hours ago.  I would have told you sooner, but I didn’t get the news until right after you got back.  Then we had to address the Russian’s concerns over the mission.”

Jack sat back hard in his chair, throwing his hands up.  “Screw the Russians, General!  I’m sorry, but I think this should have held a little more importance than wiping the tears of our fellow comrades!”

General Hammond gave him a strict look as he raised his voice.  “Colonel O’Neill!  I am not making light of this situation.  Dr. Fraiser and her daughter are just as important to me as they are to all of you.  But the Russians just lost three of their team members on a mission that you led!  I couldn’t very well just run them out the door without getting the facts straight.”  Taking a breath, he lowered his voice.  “Now, we have all available Air Force personnel stationed at Hickam looking for them.”

Daniel adjusted his glasses, looking up as held up a finger.  “General, I would like to help in the search.”  He could feel his heart racing as he waited for an answer.  The idea of Janet or Cassie being injured or worse without help had his heart aching.

General Hammond took a breath and gave him a small smile.  “I thought you would, son.  That’s why I’m giving SG-1 a leave of absence so you can go help with the search.  I have the utmost confidence that if anyone can find them and bring them home, it’s the four of you.”

Jack hung his head slightly and took in a breath, reaching under the table for Sam’s hand and giving it a gentle squeeze.  Looking at General Hammond, he spoke up, his voice suddenly more confident.  “You can count on us, General.  When do we leave?”

General Hammond looked at all of them.  “I have a plane standing by to fly you there.  You can leave as soon as you’re ready.”  Pausing for thought, he continued, his voice softer with emotion.  “Bring them home, people.  Dismissed.”  With that, he stood up and nodded at them.

As the others left to get ready, Jack spoke up hesitantly.  “Um, General, sorry about that earlier outburst.  I’m just concerned for them.  They’ve been through a lot recently.”

General Hammond put his hand on Jack’s shoulder.  “You all have, Jack.  I hate to have to send you back in the direction where that nightmare started, but you’re the best I’ve got, and they need you.”

Jack nodded.  “Don’t worry, General.  We’ll find them.  No one gets left behind.”  With that, he turned on his heels and walked over to the stairs, heading for the locker room with a determined confidence.  As General Hammond watched him go with a heavy heart, he knew that if anyone could find them, they could.  He only hoped that nothing else would plague their journey home.

Six hours later, they found themselves flying over the Pacific Ocean once more.  But unlike last time, daylight streamed in the windows, illuminating the interior of the private plane.  Sam stared out the window, her eyes sweeping over the vast, sparkling blue ocean below them as a multitude of thoughts invaded her head.

Suddenly, a quiet voice interrupted her thoughts as a hand was placed over hers.  “You okay?”  It was Jack, his touch sending instant relief to her aching heart.  Looking over at him, she gave him a small smile and nodded.  Her smile reflected in Jack’s eyes, who looked back into hers with concern.  Looking past him, she could see Daniel dozing in the seat across from them, while Teal’c seemed engrossed in a magazine.  He was stretched out on a couch a short distance away, his back turned to them.

Confident it was safe to relax a little, she moved over towards him and placed her head on his shoulder, cuddling close.  Closing her eyes, she listened for the soothing sounds of his heartbeat as he took in easy breaths.  His arms came around her and he pulled her closer, softly kissing the top of her head.  Bringing his hand up, he gently stroked the part of her hair he had just kissed, hoping to provide her with some peace.

His voice was low and soft when he finally spoke.  “We’ll find them, Sam.  I promise you that.”  He squeezed her gently as he said it, almost as if he were reinforcing what he had just said.

Sam lifted her head and sat back enough to look at him, her eyes wet with emotion.  Taking her hand, she placed it against his cheek and stared into his face.  Giving him a small smile, she spoke up in a whispered tone.  “Thank you, Jack.”  Moving forward, she kissed him gently on the lips as warmth traveled through her body, calming her soul.

The plane’s engines suddenly exchanged their consistent hum for a slightly slower one as the plane itself began to lose elevation.  They were descending.  Pulling apart, Jack and Sam heard the phone ring on the consol between them.  Jack picked it up and nodded, listening to whatever the pilot was telling him.  As Jack was hanging up the phone, Daniel stirred and looked over in their direction.  “Are we there yet?”  Daniel’s voice sounded sleepy, indicating to them that he had been doing more than just dozing.

As Daniel adjusted his glasses, Jack looked over at him briefly and nodded.  “Yep.”  Clearing his voice, he spoke up louder.  “Teal’c.  We’re getting ready to land.  Better strap yourself in.”

Teal’c got up and took his seat next to Daniel.  Looking over at Daniel, he spoke up.  “Did you not sleep well, Daniel Jackson?”

Daniel grunted softly as he adjusted his position.  “Not really, Teal’c.  Until we know what happened to Janet and Cassie, I don’t think I’ll be able to sleep well.”  His statement seemed to be echo through the rest of them.  For a moment, no one said anything.  Their minds were filled with the task ahead of them, and finding the answers to so many questions.

Jack furrowed his brow as he looked down at his feet.  “We’ll find them, Daniel, one way or the other.  I just hope when we do find them, they’re…”  He didn’t need to finish his sentence, or rather he couldn’t.  All hope teetered on the edge of remaining positive, and if he uttered the words that they might be dead, he was certain that what hope was there would go cascading into darkness.

Sam looked over at him, every inch of her being wanting to hold him in her arms.  Compromising, she placed her hand over his forearm and gave it a gentle squeeze.  “We will find them, Sir.  We have to.”

Jack looked up and over at her, his heading nodding slightly.  For the moment, nothing more needed to be said.  Turning their attention to the front of the plane, they waited for the jolt of the ground beneath them, and the chance to prove that statement true.

Arriving at Hickam AFB, they were loaded into a waiting Humvee and taken to the base commander’s office.  Stepping inside, they were immediately greeted by an enthusiastic secretary.  “Colonel O’Neill I presume.  General O’Conner is expecting both you and your team.  This way please.”  Getting up, she led them through several doors, stopping at the one placed at the end of the hall and knocked.  Opening the door, she poked her head in.  “General O’Conner?  The team from Cheyenne Mountain is here to see you.”

General O’Conner’s deep, booming voice suddenly floated through the air.  “Thank you, Diane.  Please send them in.”  Diane smiled at them as she opened the door all the way, stepping to the side so they could walk past her.  As they did, Sam smiled back and gave her thanks.

Jack and Sam both stood at attention, with a more relaxed Daniel and Teal’c on either side of them. General O’Conner got up and moved around his desk.  “At easy, Colonel.  I’m General O’Conner.”

Jack nodded as he and Sam both relaxed their stances.  “Nice to meet you, General.  I’m Colonel O’Neill, this is Major Samantha Carter, that’s Daniel, and the big fella there is called Teal’c.”  Jack watched as O’Conner looked over each of them, his gazing pausing at Teal’c, who was dressed in civilian clothes and a hat.

General O’Conner spoke up.  “Teal’c, huh?  You’re not military I take it?  Interesting name.  Is it a nickname for something else?”

Teal’c held his head high, his gaze sweeping over to the general’s face.  “I am called Teal’c, nothing more.  I do not know of this nickname that you speak of.”

Seeing the confused look appear on General O’Conner’s face, Daniel cleared his throat and spoke up.  “Ah, General, if I may.  Teal’c’s not from around here.  He’s still getting use to our customs.”

General O’Conner looked over at him.  “What did you say your name was?”

Daniel cleared his throat nervously as he gave a sideways glance at Jack.  “Dr. Daniel Jackson, Sir…archeologist.”

General O’Conner’s face lit up as he gave a hearty laugh and clapped his hands together.  “Dr. Jackson, of course!  I thought I recognized you.  I’ve read some of your work.”

            Daniel was stunned.  “You have?”

Jack couldn’t hold his question in.  “I’m sorry, Sir…why?”

Jack tried to ignore Daniel’s irritated gaze as the general directed his attention back to Jack.  “Why?  Well, Colonel, I fancy myself a bit of an amateur archeologist.  Love reading about the stuff.”

Daniel couldn’t believe his ears.  “I’m honored, General.  Thank you.  What part of my work have you read?”

O’Conner thought for a moment.  “Well, almost all of it.  But what happened to you, son?  You disappeared from print a few years back.”

Jack stepped in.  “Yes, well, he’s been working on his other skills….Astronomy, to be specific, Sir.”

General O’Conner gave them a knowing smile as he walked back around his desk.  “So I’ve been briefed.  You are each involved in…what did General Hammond call it?”

“Deep Space Telemetry, Sir.”  Jack and Sam spoke in unison, giving each other a quick glance after they finished speaking.

General O’Conner sat down, bringing his hands to a point under his chin.  “Well now, if that doesn’t sound like a cover story, I don’t know what does.”  When no one said anything, General O’Conner just laughed at the tension in front of him and waved them to a chair.  “Don’t worry, Colonel, Major.  I’m not here to pry into your secrets or what you do inside that mountain.  I’m much to busy to waste myself with that nonsense.  But what I’m sure you do want to know is the latest on the search efforts for your friends.”

Sam nodded, speaking up.  “Yes, Sir, we do.  I take it you haven’t found them?”

General O’Conner looked grim.  “I’m afraid not, Major.  I really don’t have much more to report to you other than what you already know.  Search teams have gone over every inch of that surrounding area where the bus crashed, but have come up empty handed.  To be frank, I can’t keep offering up search teams.  I realize that Dr. Fraiser is AF personnel, and we’ll give you as much support as we can, but I do have a base to run here.”

Jack nodded.  “We realize that, General.  That’s why we’re here.  If you could just provide us with a place to bunk and get someone to show us the area, we can take over.”

General O’Conner nodded.  “I’d be happy to, and getting you out there won’t be a problem.  Unfortunately, we don’t have any space on the base right now for you to bunk up.  But I’ll do one better.  I’ve informed General Hammond that I’ve booked you rooms at the Kahala Mandarin Hotel, my personal favorite.  I was only able to get two rooms, but I’m sure you can work that out.  There’s a jeep waiting to take you there.  Once you’re settled, let me know and I’ll send someone to take you out to the search area.”

Jack gave a hesitant nod.  “Thank you, Sir.”  With that, they all stood up, each shaking hands with the general who held his out.

“You’re welcome, Colonel, and good luck.  I hope you’re able to have more success than we’ve had.”  With that said, SG-1 turned and filed out of the room, heading for the jeep that would take them to their hotel.

Jack stepped out of the jeep, bag in hand, and looked at the resort in front of him.  The sun seemed to be sparkling off of everything, from the towering hotel, to the rich greens of the bushes, trees, and plants that surrounded it.  Flowers danced in the ocean breeze, giving off a tropical scent that helped to create the perfect atmosphere.  Palm trees gently swayed in the wind, their branches making a swooshing sound as they came in contact with each other.  Jack took in a deep breath of air, inhaling not only the scent of the salty sea in front of them, but the green from the mountains behind them.

“Nice,” Jack said as the sun warmed his face.  The others joined him, looking around at where they were going to be staying.

Teal’c spoke up.  “This place is indeed beautiful.”

Daniel then took his turn.  “Yeah, well, let’s not lose focus on why we’re here.”

Jack looked over at him.  “Daniel, relax!  No one has forgotten why we’re here or the seriousness of it.  But I think I’m allowed to make a comment or two about this place.  Apparently, you’re the only one who can’t.”

Daniel squinted against the sun as he looked around.  “Look, Jack, I just want to get started looking.  Time is a factor.”

Jack was doing his best not to blow up.  “I know that, Daniel, but thanks for the reminder!”

Sam cleared her throat.  “How about we go check in and then we can get started.  The general said he’d have someone standing by to take us to the search site.  The more time we stand arguing here, the more time is wasted.  Let’s go!”

As she walked off, Jack, Daniel and Teal’c watched her, stunned.  Her take-charge attitude had taken them by surprise.  Jack’s lips formed into a slow smile as he watched her.  God, he loved her!  Looking over at Daniel, he raised his eyebrows at him.  “You heard her, Daniel, move it!”  Walking off, his smile returned, loving the expression of shock on Daniel’s face.

Jogging to catch up with her, he slowed his pace when he reached her side.  Looking over at her briefly, he looked behind him to make sure that Teal’c and Daniel were a few paces away.  “Good one, Carter!”

Sam looked over at him from the corner of her eyes, continuing to walk towards the lobby.  “Sir, I think you just managed to upset Daniel a little more.  He’s already upset about Janet and Cassie.”

Jack held up a finger as he continued to walk.  “For the record, Carter, I don’t care how much I upset Daniel.”

Sam stopped and looked up at him, her eyes searching his in a no nonsense way.  As her face took on an “excuse me” look with the arch of her eyebrows just a little higher, Jack knew he was in trouble.  Hating the fact that she had this effect on him, but giving into it anyway, he held up his hands, his bag swinging in them.  “Alright, I care.  Geez!”  As they turned and started walking, Jack caught a small smirk on Daniel’s face as they made eye contact.

Waving him off, Jack spoke up again as they continued their walk.  “You know, Sam, that’s just not fair.  You gave me those same eyes when I said I didn’t care about the Unas.  I thought you loved me.”

A small smile formed at the corner of Sam’s mouth, her eyes trained on the door in front of her.  “I do, Jack.  I’m just teaching you to behave.”  When Jack stopped dead in his tracks, she turned, her hand on the door, waiting for him to give a rebuttal.  When his mouth only opened slightly, she took off her sunglasses and gave him an innocent look.  “Are you coming?”

Jack just stood there, not wanting to believe how whipped he really was.  As Daniel passed, he patted Jack on the back.  “Come on, Jack, time’s wasting.”  Giving him a smile, he walked up to Sam and opened the door for her, letting her inside.

Jack blinked and scowled in Daniel’s direction.  “Daniel, I suggest you wipe that stupid smile off your face.  It looks terrible.”  As he walked past him, Daniel couldn’t help but look at Teal’c, the smile subtle but still there.  Teal’c simply raised one eyebrow and put his hands behind his back.  As he walked past Daniel, a smiled seemed to be tugging on one side of Teal’c’s face.

Walking into the lobby, they all stopped and looked around in awe.  It was beautiful, resembling a plantation manor home.  The woodwork was shined to the point of reflection, and a large crystal chandelier hung high above their heads.  The floor was covering in a complementary wood pattern, with ornate patterned rugs lying precisely in the right place, accenting the overstuffed chairs and lounging sofas.  Soft music, unique to the islands, filled the air, and behind the desk on the far wall were open windows, with a spectacular view of the ocean.

As they approached the desk, a young girl of no more than eight approached them.  Holding four leas of bright, various colors, she smiled and approached Sam with the first one.  Bending down, Sam smiled back at her as the girl placed the bright red lea over her head.  The girl’s skin was a dark, native brown, and her eyes held an equally rich brown color, accented by the thick dark hair that fell around her shoulders.

The girl then went to each of the men, repeating the same action.  Teal’c, the last one to be donned with the gift, bowed his head to her and smiled.  Watching her walk away, he spoke up as he fingered the decoration around his neck.  “What is the meaning of this custom?”

Jack placed a hand on his shoulder.  “It’s a way for them to say hello, aloha, hola….basically, their saying welcome.”

Teal’c looked over at O’Neill.  “I find this method appealing.”

Jack started out again with the others, his fingers gripping Teal’c’s shoulders.  “Oh yes, it’s appealing.  Especially when the women of this land do it.  They’re usually wearing bikinis and grass skirts.”  Looking over at Sam, he smiled.

Sam simply shook her head, a smile on her lips as she made her way up to the counter.  A very friendly desk clerk, who found their reservations, and arranged for a bellman to escort them upstairs, welcomed them to the resort.  As they turned to go, the desk clerk’s voice rang out.

“Colonel O’Neill, I almost forgot.  A message arrived for you about 30 minutes ago.”  Holding out the envelope, Jack took it with a nod of his head.  Turning it over in his hands, there were no other markings except for his name.  Looking up at Sam, he shrugged, placing it in his pocket, deciding to wait until they reached their rooms to open it.

The bellman stopped outside of their rooms, which were next to each other, and opened both of them.  Jack reached into his pocket for his wallet and took out a few bills.  “Thanks.  We’ve got it from here.”

The bellman smiled and issued some more warm greetings before departing.  It had been decided that Sam would get a room of her own, leaving the three men to bunk up together.  As they went into their respective rooms, each were taken aback by the spacious luxury in front of them.  The walls were decorated with unique Hawaiian artwork, and the beds were large and covered in plush quilts and pillows.  The table in the corner of the room had a large bouquet of tropical flowers, and a basket of fruit said atop a chest of drawers, partially reflected in the mirror that sat behind it.

Sam put her stuff down and walked to the balcony.  Opening the glass doors, she was greeted by a warm tropical breeze that ruffled her hair.  The ocean lay before her, a panoramic view spanning from Diamond Head to Koko Head Crater.  The ocean sparkled in the late afternoon sun, the water reflecting it’s blue and green colors.  Holding onto the black wrought iron railing in front of her, she couldn’t help but smile as she suddenly sensed Jack’s quiet approach.  He placed a quick kiss on the back of her head before moving next to her.

“Beautiful, isn’t it?”  Sam’s voice sounded soft against the sound of the waves crashing gently on the shore.

“That it is.  Who would have guessed that I’d have been lucky enough to be standing here, sharing it with the most beautiful women I know.”  Jack turned and looked at her, love in his eyes.

Sam reflected his feelings, taking in the moment that surrounded them.  Hearing Daniel and Teal’c entering her room, they broke eye contact and looked in their direction.  Daniel called out.  “Jack?  Sam?”

Jack rolled his eyes.  “We’re out here, wiz kid.”  Jack smiled as he waited for Teal’c and Daniel to join them.  As they stepped out onto the balcony with them, Daniel chose to ignore Jack’s comment.

Speaking up, he directed his gaze to Jack’s jeans pocket.  “Have you opened your message yet?”

Jack’s hand immediately went to where he had stuffed the envelope.  “I almost forgot.”  Ripping it open, Jack pulled out the letter and began scanning the contents.

Sam spoke up.  “I wonder who would have sent….”

Suddenly, Jack balled up the letter and did his best to keep from shouting in frustration.  “Son of a bitch!”

As they all looked at him, Teal’c spoke up first.  “What is it O’Neill?”

Jack took a breath, trying to compose himself.  “Janet and Cassie aren’t missing.  They’ve been kidnapped!”

Daniel couldn’t believe what he had just heard.  “What?!  What do you mean kidnapped?”

Jack looked at him, frustration evident in his face.  “Just that, Daniel.  This whole bus thing…it’s all a cover.  Whoever’s got them claims they know about the Stargate and wants to talk.  If we cooperate, they’ll let them go.  Otherwise, they’re dead.”

Sam took the balled up letter from Jack’s hand and read through it.  “According to this, they want to meet us tomorrow on the big island, at a remote rangers station at the base of Hualalai.”  Reading some more, she closed her eyes briefly and looked up at them.  “No military or the deal’s off and we’ll never see them again.”

Daniel ran a hand through his hair.  “They must have been following Janet and Cassie their whole trip, waiting for the right moment. That bus accident must have been arranged.  I guess that explains the other two missing people.  But how did they know they were even here?”

Jack snorted.  “I’ll give you three guesses, and the first two don’t count.”

Teal’c answered for Daniel.  “You think Senator Kinsey is behind this.”

Jack pinched the bridge of his nose.  “Oh, you bet your ass I do.  This stinks of him.  Hell, he tried to bring down our plane, and since he failed at that, now he’s gotten desperate.”

Sam shook her head.  “But what could he possible achieve by doing this?”

Jack looked at her.  “With Kinsey’s rat infested brain, your guess is as good as mine.  He probably hopes to lure us there and then finish the job he started.”

Daniel just shook his head.  “I don’t think so, Jack.  The plan’s too obvious.  There has to be another reason.”

Jack threw up his hands in frustration.  “What then?  You tell me!”

Daniel adjusted his glasses and looked at him.  “I don’t know, but I think we need to sit down and figure out what to do next.”

Sam looked at Jack, her eyes pleading with him to stay calm.  “Daniel’s right, Sir.  We need to sit down and figure this out.  Janet and Cassie’s lives depend on it.”

Jack ran his hands threw his hair.  “Alright, alright.  Let’s go down to that beach café place here in the hotel and talk.  For all we know, our rooms could be bugged.”  With that, they all turned and headed into Sam’s room and out the door, a disgruntled look on all their faces.

Twenty minutes later, they found themselves seated around a secluded corner table overlooking the ocean.  Sipping on the ice tea that had been placed in front of them, Jack spoke up, his voice staying low but firm.  “I think we need to go to the place late tonight.  We’re suppose to meet there tomorrow at high noon, but if we go tonight, we can scope the place out and provide an element of surprise for whoever shows up.”

Daniel looked up at Jack, his eyes squinting against the bright orange and reds of the setting sun.  “How do you suggest we get to the big island?  They said no military, and you can be sure if Kinsey is behind this, he’s got someone watching the movement on the base.”

Jack nodded.  “I’m thinking the same way.  I’ve checked on the ferry schedule, but it would take too long to get there that way.  And besides that, the boats don’t run after night.”

Sam spoke up suddenly.  “What about a helicopter?  I read once about helicopter tours you can take of the islands.  Since we can assume that whoever is behind this also has the civilian flights monitored, we could take a helicopter.”

Teal’c looked over at her.  “From what I have seen of this place on a map, this big island as you call it is quite a distance away.  Should we assume that the helicopter will fly us there?”

Jack looked at him.  “Who says we need a pilot?  Carter and I have both flown helicopters before.  As long as we fly low, we can stay off radar and make it there undetected.”

Daniel looked at him, shocked.  “Jack, you’re not actually suggesting that we steal a helicopter are you?  I don’t thing that’s what Sam had in mind.”

Jack almost hissed as he spoke.  “That’s exactly what I’m suggesting, Daniel.  Do you have a better idea?  Because if you do, let’s hear it!”

The waiter came up and delivered their sandwiches, placing them down in a meticulous fashion.  Once he had gone, Jack looked back at Daniel.  “So?  Any bright ideas, Sherlock?”

Daniel sighed and sat back.  “No.  So what time are we going to do this?”

Sam looked at Jack.  “I think the helicopter tours stop at 10pm, so we can get there about midnight.  Once we’re in the air, it shouldn’t take more than an hour to get to Hawaii.  We can set the helicopter down in a discrete location.”

Jack nodded.  “Sounds good.  Teal’c?  Are you good to go with this plan?”

            Teal’c nodded.  “Indeed.”

Jack sat back, looking around.  “Okay, then it’s set.  I think it’s safe to also assume that this hotel is being watched.”

Sam looked over at Jack.  “Sir, do you really think General O’Conner is involved in this?”

Jack just shook his head.  “No, I don’t.  But whoever is behind this has his spies, and you can be sure that wherever we go, they go.  But I don’t want the general to get suspicious.  We can’t risk any interference.  Carter, I want you to go and phone O’Conner.  Tell him that we’ve got our own transportation and will be going to the crash site on our own.  It sounded to me like he was getting ready to pull out our support anyway, so I’m sure he won’t object.”

Sam nodded her head.  “Yes, Sir.”  Getting up, she walked into the café in search of a phone.  Five minutes later, she returned, having completed her task.  Sitting down, she looked around the table.  “It’s done.  He didn’t object at all.  Like you suspected, Sir, he’s pulling out the Air Force personnel who’d been searching.  Only police and volunteers are left, so they won’t miss us.”

Jack gave her a brief smile.  “Good job, Carter.  Now, we wait.”

Teal’c looked over at Jack.  “Should we not contact General Hammond?”

Jack looked down at his half eaten sandwich.  “No, I don’t think we can tell him about this.  We have to assume that all channels are being monitored.  I will call him before we leave tonight and tell him we’re still searching.  That way at least that end is covered.”

With nothing more to be said, they continued to eat in silence, barely tasting the gourmet sandwiches or seeing the sunset that was happening before them.  There was so much at stake, so much still unknown.  Until this was resolved, nothing was going to be enjoyed, even in paradise.

About 30 minutes after midnight, they found themselves flying over the ocean, skimming the water as they went, staying as low as possible to keep out of range of any radar.  Stealing the helicopter had been relatively easy.  They had left the hotel by sneaking down the stairs, exiting out of a back door that was used for emergency exits only.  Sam had managed to easily cut the alarm that would have gone off once they opened the door.  Armed with pistols, the only weapons they had thought to bring, they made their way to the target.  Once at the touring office, Teal’c and Daniel waited quietly outside while Sam and Jack broke in and found the keys to one of the helicopters.  They had to subdue a guard by knocking him unconscious from behind, or risk being caught.  Then it was all a matter of finding the helicopter that went with the keys.  Considering there were only three, and the keys were marked, it wasn’t hard.  Jack took the controls and before they knew it, they were off.

Through the whole flight there, no one said anything.  The adrenaline that was rushing through their bodies was keeping them alert to the seriousness of the situation.  Conversation wasn’t needed.  Twenty minutes later, they had Hawaii on the horizon, it’s shape outlined by the silver moonlight that was all around them.  They had studied schematics of the island before leaving and had determined the best place to touch down.  According to the geographic maps of the region, there was a clearing not two clicks away from the ranger station where they were suppose to meet up with the people behind this.

Once they touched down and cut the engines, they piled out of the helicopter and did their best to conceal the chopper by throwing a huge camouflage tarp that they had found at a military surplus store over the top of it.  Moving quietly through the night, they made their way to the ranger’s station.  It was a small outpost, obviously abandoned due the to condition and upkeep of the place.  A newer ranger tower loomed above them about a half a click away, and it was assumed that was why this was not being used anymore.  The structure appeared to be sound, but from what they could make out of it in the distance, highlighted only by the moonlight, there were ivy bushes growing out of control, partially covering the front windows as it wound it’s way up to the small roof.

Jack signaled with his hands for Teal’c and Sam to cover the back, while he and Daniel made their way to the front.  Moving in like cats hunting their prey in the night, they surrounded the small building until they were flush up against it, guns in hand.  Teal’c and Sam slid their way along the sides of the building, opposite each other.  As they came around to the front, they met up with Jack and Daniel, who were each positioned on one side of the door leading in.

Jack then signaled to Daniel and Teal’c that they were going in.  Sam was at the ready beside him, her heart pounding in her ears.  They couldn’t take any chances.  More than likely no one was inside, but they couldn’t be sure.  Jack reached out and tried the handle.  It turned with easy and opened, creaking loudly as it went.  Jack pushed it open the rest of the way, going to one side while Teal’c went to the other.  Surveying the inside of the building with pocket flashlights, they illuminated every inch, their guns going wherever their light did.

Sam was behind Jack and Daniel was behind Teal’c.  Jack’s voice pinched the darkness softly.  “Clear.”  Lowering his gun, he turned towards Sam, just in time to see a black figure reach for the door handle, throwing something in as he slammed the door closed.  “Look out!”  Jack moved in front of Sam, shooting at the door as he went.  Moving quickly, Jack ran to the door and pulled, but found that it wouldn’t budge.

Suddenly, a hissing sound invaded the room.  All lights went to the object that was now lying on the floor.  Sam’s voice rang out from a corner in the room.  “Sir, it’s a gas bomb!  We have to get out of here!”  As the room began filling with gas and the coughing started, Jack began shooting at the window.  But nothing happened.

“Damn it!” He shouted, coughing terribly.  “Bullet proof glass!  They were expecting us!  Cover your nose and mouth.  Teal’c!”  Jack pointed the big Jaffa to the door.  They watched as Teal’c hurdled himself at the door, putting a significant dent in it, but unsuccessfully opening it.

Sam was finding it harder to stay focused.  Her brain seemed to be in a cloud.  “Sir,” she said, coughing violently, “I don’t think….”  Just then, she collapsed to her knees and fell to the floor, the world around her going completely black.

Jack looked over in time to see her fall to the floor.  Things were beginning to spin.  “Carter!”  Making his way over to her, he knelt down and picked her up in his arms.  Coughing wildly, he yelled out.  “Teal’c, get that door open!”  Using all the strength he had left, he pushed his way up to a standing position with Sam in his arms.  “Daniel, give him a hand!”  When no response came, he used his flashlight to look around the room.  “Daniel?!”  His light finally captured Daniel, who had collapsed on the floor only a few feet away, unconscious.

Teal’c yelled out.  “O’Neill!  I cannot open the door!  My strength is leaving me.”  Teal’c too was now coughing.  “The room is….fading.”  With that, the Jaffa succumbed to the gas, collapsing in front of the door.

Jack could feel his consciousness teetering on the edge.  Falling to his knees, he placed Sam on the floor, yelling out.  “Damn you, Kinsey!”  Unable to keep the darkness at bay any longer, he fell down the rest of the way, his right arm coming to rest over Sam’s torso as his head landed on her other outstretched arm.

A few minutes later, the door opened, and three dark figures with gas masks on entered the room, flashlights in hand, surveying the scene.  Colonel Simmons lips formed an evil grin as his light landed on Jack and Sam.  “Gotcha.”

The world was fading in and out.  Black turned to gray turned to black turned to gray again.  Jack’s head felt like it was going to explode.  Every bone in his body ached as he tried to gingerly move his head up from it’s slumped over position.  Trying to move his feet, he found that he couldn’t.  Then he realized that his hands were bound behind him, tied to something or someone.  He was on the floor, and as he opened his eyes, the early morning light invaded his eyes, causing him temporary pain.

Groaning, he looked around him.  Through a hazy vision, he realized that they were still in the ranger’s station.  As he continued to scan the room slowly, his eyes landed on Sam.  She was still unconscious, though her head was beginning to stir.  She was bound as he was, tied to Teal’c who was behind her.  She had duck tape over her mouth and he could tell that she was in just as much pain as he was.  Who knows what those bastards had done to them.  Teal’c appeared to be awake, but with his back against Sam’s, he was unable to see that Jack was conscious.

Jack figured that Daniel was the one he was bound to, so he tried to move a little to see if he was awake.  When he felt his back move slightly, he was relieved to find that Daniel was beginning to wake up.  Taking his vision back to Sam, he focused his eyes on her, silently willing her to look up.  Finally, she moved her head up and opened her eyes, focusing on Jack’s as they sat in their sitting positions opposite each other.  Here eyes got wide as she realized their situation.  Jack simply nodded and continued to gaze at her, willing her to remain calm.

Just then, the door burst open and in walked three men dressed in black, ski masks covering their faces.  Jack turned his eyes to them and stared hard, furrowing his brow in anger as he attempted to move slightly.

The leader just laughed, a voice box being used to disguise what he really sounded like.  “Well, well.  Good morning.  It’s about time you woke up.  I must say, Colonel, you and your team made quite the valiant effort to elude us, but we managed to stay one step ahead of you, thanks to some appropriate placement of bugging devices on a certain table in a café.  We were only able to capture part of your conversation, but we heard enough to know to expect you here last night.”  Walking over to Jack, he reached down and ripped the tape off his mouth.  “I don’t think you need that anymore.”

Jack tried not to yell out as the pain across his face stung hard.  He watched as the other two men did the same thing to Sam, Teal’c and Daniel.  Jack looked up at his captor with hate in his eyes.  “You son of a bitch!  What have you done with Dr. Fraiser and Cassie, and what do you want with us?”

Simmons laughed behind his mask.  “All in good time, Colonel.  They’re safe, for now.  But that depends on you.”

Jack spit out his words.  “What is that suppose to mean?  Why don’t you stop being such a coward and get to the point!”

Simmons gave him a sly smile.  “Okay, Colonel, we’ll play it your way.  I know you and your teamwork for the SGC, and on an almost daily basis, travel through the Stargate.  And don’t bother wasting your time or mine by denying it’s existence.  I’ve seen it myself!”

A bad feeling crawled into the pit of Jack’s stomach.  This guy could be anyone, friend or foe.  He made eye contact with Sam briefly, who returned his look, confirming she was feeling the same fear.  Sam spoke up.  “So what is it you want?”

The man in black turned his attention to her.  “What is it that I want, Major Carter?  Well, that’s the question of the day.”  Walking around the room, he continued.  They all watched him, saying nothing.  “What I want is quite simple.  I want you to procure something for me.  Specifically, I want a Goa’uld.  I’d take your friend’s here,” he said, looking at Teal’c, “but it isn’t fully matured, and that just won’t work for me.”

Jack gave him a hard look.  “What in the hell do you want with a Goa’uld?  Have you ever met one, because they’re not exactly friendly.”  Pausing, he continued.  “But then, since you’re such an ugly snake yourself, you’d probably get along great!”

As Jack finished his sentence, he watched helplessly as the man in black strode over to him and slammed his fist into Jack’s jaw.  His head whipped back, hitting Daniel’s, who howled out.  Jack shook his head and stared up at the man.  “Is that all you’ve got?”

Daniel’s voice penetrated his ears softly.  “Jack, don’t provoke him.  I’ve only got one head.”

Simmons looked down on them.  “Oh, I can do much worse, Colonel, of that I can promise you.  But we’re getting off topic.  So, do we have a deal?”

Jack looked over at Sam briefly before turning his gaze back to the man in black.  “I’m sorry…I can’t seem to recall discussing a deal.”

Simmons was growing impatient.  “A Goa’uld for the lives of your precious Dr. Fraiser and Cassie.”

Jack just grunted.  “Go to Hell!”

Daniel spoke up.  “Jack, we can’t just brush him off.  He has Janet and Cassie.  We have to do something.”

Simmons smiled beneath his mask.  “You’re friend is right.  You should listen to him.  We can do this the easy way or the hard way.  It’s up to you.”

Jack just shook his head.  “You don’t get it, do you?  We’re not going to just give you what you want, no matter what you do.”

Simmons looked over at Sam.  “Major Carter, surely you’re going to be more reasonable.  I know that Dr. Fraiser is your best friend, and Cassie, well, she’s practically your daughter.  I can’t believe that you would purposely provoke me to kill them just because you refuse to do this one simple task.”

Sam looked up at the man in the mask.  “Well, you’re wrong.  Janet wouldn’t want us to compromise the safety of this world just to save her, or Cassie for that matter.  You’re not going to win, no matter what you may think of.”  Sam gave him a cocky smile as she watched him become frustrated.  Without warning, the man reached out and slapped her hard against the side of her face, sending her head flying with the force of the hit.

Jack would have killed the man right there if he’d had the means.  Anger boiled in his blood as he yelled out.  “Hey!  Touch her again, and I swear…”

Simmons laughed.  “Oh please, Colonel, what are you going to do?”

Jack looked at Sam, who connected with his eyes.  He could see she was in pain and was trying to be strong.  It was killing him not to be able to help her at that moment.

Simmons pulled out a gag and squatted down, putting it around Sam’s mouth.  Signaling the men with him to do the same to the others, he grabbed Sam by the face with his fingers and squeezed.  “Well, since you refuse to cooperate, I guess there’s no point in continuing to discuss this.  It’s too bad really…you might have made a wonderful host, especially since you’ve already been one.”

Releasing her head, he stood up and signaled to one of the other men.  “Bring them in.”  Jack looked over at Sam, his eyes pleading with hers to tell him she was okay.  She nodded, blinking her eyes as she tried to keep emotion out.

Just then, the door opened and Janet and Cassie were led in, their hands bound and their mouths gagged, but no worse for the wear.  They were pushed along and forced to sit down against one of the walls.  Cassie’s eyes were huge as she took in the site of her friends.  Sam was relieved to see them, though she feared what was coming.  As if the man in black could hear her thoughts, a gun was suddenly placed to her temple.

Jack began struggling and giving out a throaty cry as Simmons spoke.  “Since none of you will cooperate, and I can’t have you reporting this, I guess this is where we say goodbye.  As he pulled back and loaded the gun, Sam looked over at Jack, her eyes filled with love.

Jack thought he was going to go insane.  His heart was beating so fast he could barely hear anything else.  As he continued to struggle, an explosion suddenly ripped through the room, sending the men on their feet to the floor.  Jack didn’t know what was happening.  All he cared about was that at that moment, Sam was still with him.  One of the men got to their feet and ran outside, only to come back in moments later to whisper something to their leader.

Laughter filled the tiny room.  “Well,” Simmons said, shouting over the rumbling, “it appears that Mother Nature is going to do the dirty work for us.  Hualalai has just erupted!  I figure that it will take a matter of minutes for the lava flow to consume this building.”  Reaching the door, he looked back at Jack.  “Enjoy your last few minutes together.”  And with that, he was gone, followed by his henchmen.

Teal’c and Sam were struggling along with Jack and Daniel.  Cassie was giving out a throaty scream as she and Janet attempted to stand up, their feet not having been bound.  Suddenly, Cassie got an idea and laid back down on the floor, bringing her legs up in the air as she pulled her arms up over them.  Janet saw her idea work and followed suit.

With their hands now in front of them, they pulled off their gags and started working on each other’s bonds.  The earth was shaking violently, and debris was falling all around them, hitting the roof.  There wasn’t much time left.  The air was already filling up with ash, making it harder to breathe.

Teal’c suddenly used all the strength he had, pulling his arms towards him, hoping to break the bonds.  Suddenly, the rope snapped, sending Teal’c flying forward as Sam flew back, slamming into the floor.  Teal’c quickly removed his gag and undid the rest of the rope holding him.  Moving over to Major Carter, he helped her sit up.  “Major Carter, are you alright?”

Sam nodded, yelling her response over the noise outside.  “I’m okay, Teal’c.  Go help Daniel and the Colonel.”  Undoing the rest of her bonds, she got up and moved over to where Cassie and Janet were.  “Cassie, Janet!  Are you both alright?”

Cassie nodded, tears in her eyes.  “We are, Sam.  It’s good to see you.”

As Sam worked on their ropes she smiled at her.  “It’s good to see you too.  What do you say we get out of here?”  Sam then looked at Janet and gave her a quick smile, trying to offer reassurance for their situation.

Just then, another major earthquake sent the ground shaking under their feet.  Sam, Janet and Cassie lost their balance and landed on the ground.  Jack’s voice suddenly filled the air.  “Carter?  Are you guys alright?”

Sam looked over at him, relived to see that he was not injured.  “Yeah, we’re okay.”  Teal’c was just finishing getting Daniel’s ropes undone.  Suddenly, a large rock came crashing through the roof, landing on the far side of the building.  Cassie screamed and covered her head as more rocks pelted the roof.

The men made their way over to them.  Daniel helped Janet up as Teal’c picked Cassie up and held her in his arms.  Jack gathered Sam up in his arms and held her to him as he picked her up off the floor.  Looking down at her, he nodded.  “Let’s get the Hell out of here!”

Not letting go of her, they made their way towards the front of the building.  Just then, the back wall collapsed at its base as red-hot lava came pouring in.  The walls caught fire and smoke began filling the room.  Not looking back, they just ran, out of the building and into the air, which was now filled with ash and pieces of reigning fire.  Jack grabbed Sam’s hand as they ran along, looking behind them to make sure the rest of their friends were with them.  Teal’c had put Cassie down and was running beside her.  Daniel was holding onto Janet’s hand, running without looking back.

Lava was right on their heels, the volcano seeping out it’s pent up stores of magma and heat.  Jack knew they had to get to the helicopter, if it was even still there.  Luckily, it appeared the flow of the lava was being reserved to the side of the mountain they were now leaving, but it would only take another explosion to cause the volcano to change the course of its flow.

With their bodies spent, they pulled energy from the very depths of their souls to keep going.  The ash was making it hard to breath, causing them to fight for breath as they ran.  Suddenly, Teal’c shouted out.  “O’Neill, look out!”

Jack looked up in time to see a rock headed straight for them.  Throwing his arms around Sam, he dove to the ground and began to roll with her, hoping they were going in the right direction.  The impact of the rock hit only a few feet away, and Jack used his body to shield Sam’s.  Looking at her after the impact, he spoke up quickly.  “You okay?”

Sam nodded.  They were both scratched up from rolling, but they were alive and together.  Jack stood up and pulled her off the ground just as the others joined them.  Jack pointed.  “The helicopter’s that way.  It shouldn’t be too far now.  Let’s move!”

They took off running, watching both the sky above and the ground below.  In the distance, the tarp covering the helicopter could be seen.  It was still there, and in one piece for now.  As they ran towards it, another explosion rocked the mountain and lava began shooting out of another crevice, this time heading straight for their salvation.

Jack waved them on.  “Keep going! We have to get that off the ground before the lava gets here.”  As they continued to run, it felt like it would take a lifetime to reach it.  But finally, they did.  Yanking the cover off, they climbed inside, with Jack and Sam taking the pilot’s seats.

Attempting to activate the power, the chopper stalled out.  Jack kept trying until Cassie suddenly yelled out.  “Look!  The lava is almost to us!”

Jack swore under his breath.  “Come on, baby, fly, fly!!”  Just then the engines kicked out the ash and activated, the power climbing to a level need to pull up with.  “Hold on!”  Jack pulled back on the stick and waited for the bird to take flight.  Just as the red-hot lava was beginning to singe the front legs of the chopper, Jack got enough juice to pull up above the tree line.

Angling the helicopter, he made a hard left and flew towards the ocean, away from the danger and death that seemed to want to plague them at every turn.  But they had managed to elude it once again, and as Jack flew in the direction of Oahu, he wondered how long their luck would continue to hold out.

“Jack, hey Jack!”  From underneath his sunglasses, Jack looked over to find Cassie waving at him and running towards him, with Janet and Daniel in tow.  Waving a hand in her direction, he smiled, watching them come towards him.  It had been two days since their ordeal.  After getting back, Jack had contacted General Hammond and informed him of what had happened.  Assuring the general that they were all okay and would be returning, he was pleasantly surprised when General Hammond suggested they take a few extra days and enjoy the islands, together.  Not one to look a gift horse in the mouth, Jack happily agreed.  They were given the next three days in paradise, and he intended to use every moment of it.

Cassie and Janet had bunked up with Sam in her room, and for the past two days, they had spent time healing, relaxing, and enjoying each other’s company.  Unable to prove who had actually been behind the kidnapping, General Hammond informed Jack that he’d put an investigational team on it right away.  Kinsey was a top suspect, but considering the specific interest in obtaining a Goa’uld symbiote, the NID wasn’t far down the list.

And so Jack found himself lying on the beach in a lounge chair, enjoying the warm rays of the sun and the tropical breezes.  The only thing that was missing was Sam.  They had barely had any alone time together, especially with Janet and Cassie joining them.  Cassie had latched onto Sam immediately, and it seemed wherever she went, Cassie went.  Jack understood, he really did, but he couldn’t help but feel a little jealous in not being able to have her full attention.  So as the group approached him, he was really surprised not to see Sam with them.

Cassie ran up beside him and bent down, giving him a hug and almost toppling them over.  Jack smiled.  “Whoa!  Hey kiddo!  You’d better slow down or we’ll both be lying face down in the sand.”  Smiling at her and then up at Daniel and Janet, Jack commented.  “You three look like you’re ready for an adventure.”

Cassie could barely contain herself.  “We are, Jack.  We’re going to go take a jeep tour of the island.  Mom and I never got a chance to, and Daniel says he knows all these cool back roads and great places to drive to. He even knows this great spot on the mountains where we can see the stars really clearly.”

Jack pulled his sunglasses partly down his nose and looked up at Daniel, eyebrows raised.  “Really?  Well, Daniel, it seems you’ve been holding out on us.  I didn’t know you knew the islands so well.”

Daniel shrugged, smiling.  “Yeah, well I’ve been to these islands quite a bit.  I use to…know someone who lived here.”

Jack raised an eyebrow, grinning.  “Oh, you use to know someone, huh?  Well, it seems I haven’t given you enough credit, Daniel.  Apparently you do know how to be more than just a geek.  I didn’t know you had a romantic streak in you.”  Jack looked at Janet and winked, who proceeded to blush bright red, despite the nice tan on her face.  Jack just laughed.

Daniel rolled his eyes and sighed.  “Jack, you just have no sense of tack sometimes.”

Jack looked out at the ocean as he continued to smile.  “Nope, and I’m proud of it.”  Pausing, he looked back over at them.  “So, who else is going besides the three of you?”

Daniel snorted.  “Well, since we haven’t been able to get your butt off that lounge chair in the last two days, I’m assuming you’re not coming.”

Janet smiled as Jack simply ignored Daniel’s comment.  Softly laughing, she spoke up.  “Teal’c is going with us.  He’s very excited because Daniel is going to let him drive the jeep we rented.”

Jack looked over and then back at the ocean, shaking his head.  “A Jaffa going off-roading?  Well, it’s you’re necks.”  Hesitating, he looked back over at Janet.  “Where’s Carter?  Isn’t she going with you on this little adventure?”

Janet just shook her head.  “No, she says she’s not feeling well today.  I checked her out, but I think it’s nothing more than a headache and fatigue.  She’s resting in her room, hopefully napping.”

Jack furrowed his brow slightly.  Sam had seemed fine at dinner last night.  He didn’t like the idea that she wasn’t feeling well.  Before he could think anything else, Cassie spoke up.  “Well, have fun Jack!  Don’t wait up!  Come on you guys, Teal’c is waiting!”  Jack waved a hand at them as he watched them retreat back towards the lobby of the hotel.  He couldn’t help but smile as he watched Daniel discreetly take Janet’s hand as they made their way through the white sand.

Turning back to the water, he decided he’d wait for about 15 minutes and then go up and check on Sam.  Maybe today they’d actually get some time together in paradise.  Of course, that all depended on how she was feeling.  Closing his eyes, he figured he’d just take a catnap before heading up there.

Twenty minutes later, Sam emerged into the warm sunlight of the late morning, soaking up the rays against her skin.  She was dressed in shorts and a tank top, covering up what she couldn’t believe she was wearing underneath.  There was a perfect breeze that blew across her skin, ruffling her hair, and she put on her pair of sunglasses, shielding out the brightness of the day from her eyes.  The blue-green water sparkled brilliantly in the sun as the white foaming waves crashed gently on the shore.  Looking ahead of her, she spotted Jack’s chair, in the same place he’d put it the last two days.

Coming up quietly behind him, she stuck her head around the back of the chair and found that he was asleep, his perfect mouth hanging open slightly as soft breaths escaped his lips.  Smiling, she pulled up the lounger next to him a little closer and sat down, watching him sleep.  She was hoping for a day like this, a day when the others would give the two of them a chance for some time alone, even if that wasn’t there intention.  Faking a headache had been easy enough, for she was fairly certain that Jack wouldn’t be joining them on their adventure.

Bending towards him, she placed a feathery kiss on his forehead, laughing softly to herself as his hand went instinctively up to swat away whatever what tickling him.  She had moved away in time before his hand made contact with her, and when he had settled again, she did the same thing, this time blowing a bit of air through the edges of his hair.

Jack grumbled as he swatted again.  “Stupid bug!  Can’t you let a guy sleep!”

Sam smiled and spoke up.  “Okay, if that’s what you want.”  Getting up slowly, she lightly laughed as he suddenly jolted from sleep.

His voice was strong, laced with the hint of surprise.  “What?!  Carter?  Sam?”  Looking up, he smiled as his eyes met hers.  “Hey!  Whatcha doing?”

Sam tried to act hurt.  “Well, I was going to keep you company, but if you’d rather sleep…”

Jack captured her wrist as she turned to go and pulled her back, forcing her into his lap and waiting arms as she playfully screamed.  “Oh no you don’t!  You’re not going anywhere.  Today you’re mine.  By the way, how’s the headache?”  He smiled up at her as he said it.

Sam rolled her eyes and pushed off his chest, standing up.  “It’s fine, thank you.”  Sitting down next to him, she smiled.  “I know I’m not as good as the great Jack O’Neill at making excuses, but a girl can try.”

Jack smiled.  “Well, you know…”  Suddenly losing his smile, he realized the full implication of her comment.  “Hey!”

Sam just laughed as she bent over and kissed his lips, lingering there as long a she could.  The soft fullness of them had her insides in a tumble.  Pulling back, she stretched up her arms to the sky and took in a deep breath.

Jack watched her relax with a half smiled plastered on his face.  Taking in her appearance, he spoke up.  “You know, Carter, most people who come out on the beach usually where something called a swimsuit.  I’d hate to have to dunk you in the water with your clothes on.”

Sam looked down at him and smiled, the curve of her lips driving Jack wild.  “Well, then I guess I’d better get with the program.”  With her heart racing at what she was about to do, she placed her hands on either side of her tank top and pulled it off, revealing a black bikini top that had spaghetti straps and tied provocatively in the front, pushing up her breasts to reveal just the right amount of cleavage.

Jack couldn’t remember his name as he watched her undo the button of her shorts.  When she let them drop to the sand below, stepping out of them to reveal the complementary black bikini bottom, the back apparently cut in a Brazilian style as she purposely bent over in front of him to pick up her shorts, Jack couldn’t help but let his jaw drop open.  He knew he had to be drooling.  There, standing in front of him, was a goddess, and a tan one at that.  The muscular tone of her body reflected the light as her blonde hair glistened in the sun.  As Jack watched sit down next to him, stretching out her long, sexy legs, he was beginning to believe that he had actually died two days ago and that he was in Heaven.

Jack could barely breathe as he did his best to tighten up his jaw.  “You are the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.”

Jack’s low, deep voice had Sam’s insides ringing.  She couldn’t contain her smile.  “Well, good, because I tell you, I’ve never been so nervous as when I decided to put this thing on.  I almost didn’t wear it.”

Jack grinned back at her.  “Well, that would have been a crime against humanity.  After all, the guys on this beach came here with one purpose: to drool over hot little things like you.  And by the looks you’re getting, I’d say you’ve succeeded.”

Sam could feel her face redden.  “Well,” she said quietly, looking over at him, “there’s only one pair of eyes I want watching me.”  Sam smiled at him as she touched his cheek, caressing it with her long fingers.

Jack grinned.  “Oh, don’t you worry.  I’m not taking my eyes off you…ever!”  Capturing her hand, he kissed the back of it before proceeding to lace his own fingers through hers.

Thirty minutes later, they were in the water, jumping the waves and taking turns splashing each other.  Wrapping her in his arms, Jack twirled her in the water as he kissed her, loving the laughter that escaped her throat.  As he stared into her face, he placed a wet hand on her cheek, his vision turning gray for a moment.

Sam noticed how he seemed to be lost in thought.  Giving him a gentle squeeze, she spoke up softly.  “Hey, what’s wrong?”

Jack shook his head and gave her a sad smile.  “I was just thinking about the other day and how much fear and hate wrenched through my gut when I saw that maniac put that gun to your head.”  Taking a shuttered breath, he drew her into his embrace even tighter.

Sam held him tight and then pulled back enough to place a kiss on his lips.  “Hey, I’m okay, we’re okay.  We made it through.”

Jack tried to cough out the emotion that layered his voice.  “I know…but still,” he said, looking into her eyes, touching her cheek once more.  “I don’t know what I’d do if I ever lost you.”

Sam smiled, tears in her eyes.  “Ditto.”  Placing her lips on his, she kissed him for all the love in her heart.  As Jack’s tongue probed deeper, wanting more, she got an idea.  Pulling away, she nodded her head, indicating for him to follow.

Jack didn’t need to know what she was doing.  He would follow her to the ends of the Earth if that’s what it took to keep her with him.  Swimming beside her, they went a short distance, paralleling the shore, until the came up on a small island.  Swimming around to the back of it, Sam stopped when she lost sight of the hotel and then pulled Jack to her, her toes digging into the soft sand below the water.

Jack captured her lips as his hand snaked around to the back of her head, supporting it as he drove his kisses harder onto her lips.  As she clung to him, her hand traveled down under the water and found the core of his passion, and began to stroke it.  Jack let off a throaty moan as he pushed his kisses down her throat, devouring the sensitive spot between the nape of her neck and her collarbone.  As Sam softly cried out, her passion raging, he placed a hand beneath her suit and cupped one of her breasts with his hand, caressing it gently.  As she responded to his touch, Jack held on as her lips found his neck, kissing hungrily as she moved her hands to the sides of his suit and pulled it down.

Jack took his hand from her top and slid it down her flat stomach to the bottom piece of her suit.  Smiling at her, he took a breath and dipped under the surface of the water, pulling her bottoms off as he kissed her between her inner thighs.  Sam jolted and her hands gripped the sides of his arms, holding on for dear life.  With both suits in hand, he surfaced.

Sam slicked his hair back as she captured his mouth once more, her tongue exploring all reaches of his mouth.  As he entered her, the feel of their bodies becoming one had them both moaning, clinging onto each other as the sensations reached higher and higher.  Sam curled her legs up and around his back, loving the feel of the slick motion under the water.

As they climbed together, it didn’t take long for their passion to release, sending shutters through their bodies as they turned in the water, holding on for dear life.  Kissing each other as the heart stopping passion relaxed to a sensation of pure exhausted bliss, Sam smiled.  “I love you, so much, Jack.”

Jack kissed her back, returning her smile, a half curve on his lips.  “And I love you.”  Helping each other out of the water, they made their way to the private little piece of paradise they’d found and laid out on the sand, making love again.  They spent the rest of the day there in each other’s arms, experiencing nothing but the joy that life can bring.

In the middle of the afternoon, a small rain shower grazed the area, but Sam and Jack didn’t care.  Time was precious for them, and they didn’t want to waste a minute of it.  As they stood kissing in the warm rain, the sun made it’s way through the clouds, making each raindrop glisten like tiny diamonds as they fell all around them.  Standing there in the sun, kissing softly, the rain still falling, a rainbow appeared in the sky, it’s soft colors of red, orange, yellow, green, and purple shining brightly against the patches of blue sky that had begun to appear as the rain clouds moved off.  There could have been a million people all around them, but for Sam and Jack, they were the only one’s that existed in that window of time.

Later that evening, as the sun was setting, it’s rays coloring the world in deep hues of red and orange, Sam and Jack sat at a table in the café eating a sandwich and indulging in tropical drinks.  They had both cleaned up and were looking very fresh and happy when the rest of their group returned.  Spotting them, Sam and Jack waved them over, and made room for the exhausted adventures.  As Daniel and Janet sat down, Sam and Jack eyed them carefully and then looked at each other, a knowing look on their faces.

Daniel caught the look.  He spoke up cautiously as he pulled out a chair for Janet.  “Hey guys, what’s up?”

Jack turned a smile on Daniel.  “Oh, I don’t know, Daniel, why don’t you tell me.  You apparently must have had a good day.”

Daniel grumbled something as he took a seat next to Janet, and Cassie giggled.  They proceeded to tell Jack and Sam about all they saw and did.  Teal’c apparently had been a great driver and had had a great time doing it.  Janet and Daniel didn’t make any indications of anything more than just enjoying each other as friends, but Sam could tell by the way Janet’s lips and skin were flushed that there was more to the story than met the eye.  She promptly decided she was going to have to have some girl talk later.

Daniel cleared his throat when the tales of their adventures died down.  “So, what did you two do all day?  You look like you’re feeling better, Sam.”

Sam blushed slightly, hoping that the setting sun had concealed it.  “I am, thanks, Daniel.”

Jack smiled slightly, his mind reminiscent of the day’s events.  “Oh, Daniel, you know me.  Just sat on the beach, soaking up the sun.  Carter here eventually decided to join me.  That was about it.”

Teal’c watched O’Neill and Major Carter, a smiling tugging on the edge of his lips.  He was sure they had enjoyed their day, but to an extent much more than what O’Neill had admitted to.

As they continued to laugh and talk, enjoying the last few hours before they had to return to the mountain in cold, snowy Colorado, they were unaware of a pair of eyes watching them.  Cold fingers dialed a number on a cell phone, and then the phone was placed to his ear, waiting for the other end to pick up.

The man spoke into the phone.  “Yeah, it’s me.  Just wanted to let you know that I’ll be mailing you my work for the day.  I’ve come up with some pretty entertaining photographic work that I think you’ll find quite amusing.”  Clicking off the phone, he got up, taking one last look at them before turning and walking away.

On the other end of the line, Simmons hung up the receiver in his office and sat back in his chair, fingertips forming to a point in front of his lips.  He had been infuriated that once again SG-1 had managed to pull through.  It seemed they were true heroes to the core.  But from the sound of things, the tides might be turning, depending on the pictures that were going to be appearing on his desk.  That was one piece of mail he was looking forward to, more than anything.
